Can Bamboo save the Planet?

I can think of several ways in which bamboo can help save the planet, beside caning those who got us into the mess.

Number 1 everybody can plant some, with it's fast growing nature and 35% more leaflets than a tree the same size we would be doing a lot about the carbon thingy, also as the leaves decay they surround carbon with silicone nodules.. cool!

Number 2 You can eat it! Yes the shoots are edible ( par boil them first ) healthy and tasty!

Number 3 You can make stuff from it, and I mean more than just wind chimes! People have been building with bamboo for thousands of years, all kinds of things, boats, musical instruments, houses, utensils, tools, weapons, fire starters, plumbing and more! It can even be used inside concrete to keep it from cracking and make it strong, check out Thomas Edison's Pool if you doubt that! The list is so large I can't do it here, go ahead and google 1001 uses for bamboo! Think of all the trees we could let grow if we made paper from bamboo! Did I mention charcoal and the excellent properties of Bamboo Charcoal? Bamboo Fabric is really wonderful, now some say the method for making bamboo rayon isn't very friendly, but there are methods for making the fabric from the fiber itself... come on America innovate!

Number 4 Some other benefits are winter fodder for livestock, windbreaks and soil erosion. And if you live in an earthquake zone a bamboo forest close by could be a blessing.

Number 5 All of the things I've mentioned are great reasons to grow bamboo, but the reason I do is it's beauty... OK I guess I'm a little shallow, but the look and sound of the bamboo relaxes me and makes me smile, in a world with little to smile about sometimes this is a big benefit. Did you know there are over 1300 types of bamboo? Did you know bamboo is a grass? Did you know there are two main types, clumpers and runners? If you get the runner type you need to contain it or have lots of land! Bamboo is not the kind of plant to guess with, do your homework before you plant! The amazing growth rates will blow you away! Some large bamboos can grow 3 feet a day! They reach their total height in just 30 - 90 days!
